Never before has a hunter had such an effective way to scout during the
season. Many hunters do not realize that a buck will make a territorial scrape
any time of the year. using the Scrapemaker for scouting, will give a hunter the
chance to find the dominant buck in their area. Simply take your property and
divide it into sections of 5-20 acres (depending on how many gross acres you
plan to scout). By using a topo map or aerial photo, locate your top scrape and
rub zones. Three weeks prior to the season, go into each section of your
property and make a scrape line and mock rub line; use your scents accordingly.
Leave the property alone for two weeks, then go back to each scrape and rub
line. Chances are you will find where the big buck spotted to investigate your
lifelike mock scrape or rub. Big bucks don't like competition and will sometimes
scratch out the mock hoof print and leave their own hoof print in the scrape.
Then they will either rub over the top of an existing rub or create a new rub on
a tree next to your mock rub. These warnings he leaves for other bucks will be
your calling card. Find the hot scrape action, hang your stand, freshen the hot
scrape again, and you're ready for the opener. It is important that you take
scent control seriously when scouting. Usually I will scout midday just after a
rain. I also have a game plan and like to go into the woods as quickly and
efficiently as possible. Our goal is to locate and harvest the dominant buck in
the area. Scout smart and reap the rewards during the season. |
