| 2) Two-Prong Rake head
The two-prong rake head simulates a buck's splayed hoof as he
digs up the ground. Use the two-prong rake to scrape up the surface of the
soil. Make an oval shaped scrape using the licking limb as your guide. Keep the
licking limb right in the middle of the scrape. Make the scrape approximately
2 1/2 feet wide by 1 1/2 feet tall when scouting and when hunting early season.
Increase the size of your scrapes as the rut approaches. A scrape that is 4 feet
wide by 3 feet tall is not uncommon around the rut. It is important to remember
that trench-like scrapes are very impressive to look at but unnecessary. You
don't have to go real deep, just make sure the ground is fluffed a couple of
inches deep. When making your scrape, keep the lines in the scrape going in one
direction, from the top of the scrape to the bottom. Very seldom will he
make a scrape by circling all of the way around the scrape. Once the scrape and
licking limb are complete add your scent accordingly (See
scent directions). Now you are ready for the icing on the cake! The massive buck
print!
